The latest on 20th November 2004:

Those of you who objected to the planning application should have received a letter advising you that new plans have been submitted which show the access using the current access to the golf Course and club house. This is good news. There are, however, those who believe that the developers always planned to 'give way' on this matter.

We are fast approaching a critical decision point. We are advised that the application may go to the planning committee for decision on 30th November but that this is subject to the workload on the case officer. If you want to object but haven't got around to it, you must do it now.

Remember: If the planning permission is given the community has no right of appeal. If it is rejected the developers do have a right of appeal.

If the application is to go the 30 November committee, the officers' report to the committee will have to be available on 22 November, you may wish to request that the case officer, (Phil Thomas at Monmouthshire County Council) for a copy of the officer's recommendations. His contact details are; e-mail: philthomas@monmouthshire.gov.uk and direct line: 01633 644809.

So what is the situation?

  1. The alteration of the road is good news but does not negate the other issues;
  2. Our advice is that any earlier objections, if they cover a variety of subjects, should not be negated by the new plans.
  3. We will know more when we learn of the officer's recommendations.

What objectives should we have?

As a community, in the short term, our objective must to prevent planning permission being given and ensure that the application is rejected. We then expect the Developers to appeal but this will buy the community time and cost the Developers considerable sums. Ideally, we would like to retain the golf course as a community resource. Perhaps the developers should, in discussion with the community, come up with a plan that retains the gold course. They may find their plans less objectionable!
