The latest on 15th January 2005:

So you thought that the Golf Club was all over did you? Well not quite yet!!

We have not yet given up the fight and are working to salvage something for the community.

The plans have been passed in principle but there are some reserved items which are being negotiated. Graham Down (our County Councillor) is working hard to ensure that the community gets some recompense for losing a community facility/amenity such as the Golf course and club house.

It is perfectly legitimate use of planning law to require a developer to make a financial contribution to community projects and the Monmouthshire CC Planning Committee are not averse to the suggestion that the developer of the Golf Course make a contribution to our Community in some way.

However, in order to achieve this we have to demonstrate that we are losing a REAL community facility.  Therefore we need evidence of community use of the golf club - any organisations, clubs, groups, individuals that have used the club in the past.

This evidence must be assimilated before the end of January in order to prepare for the February planning committee meeting. Therefore please provide me with the evidence!

So, in summary, I need evidence of community use of the Golf Course & the Club House by the end of January.

I am aware of PTA’s use of the Club House for social events. But need details of other organisations, clubs, groups, individuals that have used the club in the past with as much detail as possible.

Please e-mail the information to: webmaster@shirenewtonchurch.org.uk

Leave it at the Village Shop for collection, or

fax it on (01291) 641681

Thank you for your help.

To avoid any confusion please note that this is not a Community Council initiative.
